This week is Johannah's birthday--she is turning 15! Last year, we celebrated with a huge pool party, hosted by the Lees in Altoona. Johannah (very unselfishly, I might add) expected nothing this year.
Much to her delight, her two closest friends, Rachel and Ruthie, were having NONE of that! I got a text yesterday from Rachel, asking for my help in beginning a week-long birthday scavenger hunt for Johannah. I sent Johannah out, walking the dogs (in the middle of the afternoon--a strange thing to ask indeed), and Rachel popped in, telling me what I needed to do. Then, the hunt began.
Here's what the initial letter said:
Dear Johannah,
Happy Birthday!
Today marks the start of your birthday week,
So get ready for a game of hide and seek.
This card is the first of 15 birthday presents you'll receive within the next several days,
You'll need to remember some funny memories to help you through this puzzling maze.
The rules are simple,
Read each clue,
Then think of the item and whom to talk to.
You can search for your presents high and low,
But find people; and a gift and a clue to you they'll show.
You'll have a schedule to maintain that goes just like this,
Be sure to keep it or some presents you'll miss:
There is then a detailed schedule of what day and what class period to look for a clue.
At the end of the letter, it read:
Enclosed in this card is your very first clue.
Read it to find birthday present number two!
Let the games begin!
xoxo
Ruthie and Rachel
As of this morning, she had found two of the 15 presents (hidden away in our home). I am amazed at how much her friends love her and KNOW her!
Present 1: the initial letter
Clue: I'm something you crave when you're feeling down,
But when eaten by Ruthie, she'll surely frown.
I come in many flavors: dark, milk and white,
So go talk to your mom and tell her goodnight.
Use me at bed time and stop freaking out.
Walk to your bathroom, and me you will see,
You have found gift number 3!
Clue: Too bad you can't date, but with you I'll soon be.
Go to History, find Ruthie, on her wrist will be me.
Clue: Speed is required to decipher this clue. In your next class is a boy who sings more like you :-)
On his cheek months ago, Rachel gave him a kiss, and almost immediately he was fed Ruthie's fist.
Ask him for an envelope and see what's inside, but be sure you're not with him, or you'll just want to hide.

Present 5:
Clue: Ich komme aus Deutschland, und ich bin mit Herr Smith.
If you can't figure out this clue, then you are probably dumb.
Present 6:
Clue: Everyone absolutely loves eating me.
If you pick the wrong colors, you'll probably yell.
Jacob's a pro at this game, so find him before first period's bell!
What a cute and fun idea.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Shes a lucky girl to have such great friends. I might have to "borrow" this idea.
