Comic Con

Everything that I had heard about Comic Con from Glo and Hannah was that it was super fun! They always talked about how cool the floor was, and how there were all of these cool cosplays, but I didn't  quite know what to expect. I started to get excited though once Glo and I sat down and started figuring out what our schedule for all of our panels would be. There was SO MUCH stuff! There was one hour where there were three different panels that I wanted to go to, and there just wasn't enough time to do it. The three trolls from the Hobbit were outside the venue, and were pretty fun to pose with :-) I was determined to do as much as I possibly could, and thankfully I had Mark and Glo as partners in crime, who were more than happy to do everything they could with me. On Thursday I was able to get out of work by doing a community service project sponsored by GS, for which employees get a extra free day. I signed up to go teach a class of elementary school students, most

We Live in a ****** Nature Preserve

When we were thinking of buying La Maison, we found out that there is a stipulation (or covenant) for living here:  no more than three animals in any domicile on the street.  Considering we have eight pets, I assumed immediately that we couldn't buy the house.  John tried to convince me that we could just keep the dogs in the house and rotate them out in intervals so that only three were in view at any one time.  One of the reasons I wanted to leave our home in PA was because of the 24/7 stress of the dogs in the backyard, barking at anyone who happened to walk by (I will forever curse the neighborhood vote that put in the walking track bordering our house two years after we moved in).  The last thing I wanted to do was to have to worry even more about neighbors and attempting to hide our dogs or keep them quiet.  However, our realtors, trying to make a sale, convinced us to walk around to the individual neighborhood houses and ask the owners if they cared if we had animals (five d

Patriarchal Blessings

Following Allison through her conversion to the gospel and through her progress as a new member has been something really wonderful for the Kennedy family.  We have had focused prayers as a family for her and for Mark, we have had some soul-searching conversations with Allison, and we have been able to share in the joy of seeing someone we love be baptized. There are so many fun "firsts" with Allison as a new member of the church.  It was almost a literal sink-or-swim experience when we took her to the temple to do baptisms for the dead only a couple of days after she herself was baptized :-)  Today we got to see and hear her speak for the first time in sacrament meeting.  And just this past month, Allison received her patriarchal blessing. We all worry for Allison.  She's such a baby in the gospel, and we really want everything to be as wonderful as possible for her in the beginning.  There will be enough trials of her faith throughout her lifetime (as it is for all

Why I Believe

Several weeks ago, Allison invited John and me to hear her speak in sacrament meeting.  What a blessing it is to now be in a place where we can hop around to different meetings on Sunday and see the wonderful things our family is doing!  We showed up today, and by the end of Allison's talk, I was reduced to tears.  John and I were both in awe of the testimony Allison has, and the story of how she came to have any testimony at all.  With her permission, I'm posting the bit I have on my computer, but she did end with her own testimony which I hope she will add onto this post. Hiyas, here is a copy of what I had planned to say, which in general I thought I stuck too quite well, but you'll have to forgive the grammatical errors or any loose thoughts. -edits from Allison "Hi everyone, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Allison Boss. Yes my last name is legitimately Boss, no I don’t think I’m particularly bossy, yes my father is a boss at work but my mo

Utah from the Non-Utah, Baby Mormon

Helllooo bloggy world! If I haven't formally met you, I'm Allison Boss. I'm the girl that makes an appearance every once in a while in a blog post or photo, but as I'm going to be an in-law (or outlaw, whichever term floats your boat. I personally like outlaw because it seems more fun, wild and silly at the same time, but that's just me) somewhat soonish. I recently (aka last November) was baptized so I consider myself a baby LDS church-member (in fact I'm sure most 6 year olds in the church remember more scriptures and hymns than I do). But one thing that I've always heard about is how the Mormon population is absolutely astounding in Utah and you can see that influence in everything, even the street names. I was told that one has to make a trip out there for Temple Square, the mountains, friendly people (and Chick-Fil-a what what). So with a temple wedding coming ever closer and very few modest dresses in Michigan, I decided to make the trek out to the
