Day Five: Favorite Food

Medium rare sirloin.  Growing up in Texas, I've been eating red meat since I had teeth :-). And thankfully, I have genetically low cholesterol so I don't see myself changing that habit anytime soon.

Potato chips.  When I was pregnant with Ethan, I ate an ENTIRE large bag of Ruffles a day....and spent a year losing the extra weight afterwards....

Cantaloupe.  See Day Two.

Peanut butter. Some people are pretty specific about peanut butter, but I don't care. I. love. Peanut Butter. It is so tasty with everything. Ice cream, bread, bananas, chocolate....there isn't much with which I won't eat peanut butter.

Bananas. If I were on Survivor and had some bananas, I would be totally set. See day number 2?

Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. This has always been my favorite kind of ice cream, and most people do it right. The kind that takes the cake though? Eddy's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. They load it up with cookie dough, and ice cream is somewhat optional. Bring on the fat and sugar! :)

1) Tomatoes: I love tomatoes.  The best way to eat a tomato is like an apple, but you're a vampire.  You take one bite, then suck all the seeds/tomato juice out, then eat the remainder of the tomato.  I also enjoy tomato sandwiches, which is a toasted slice of bread, layered with mayonnaise, than as many tomato slices as Daddy (yes, Daddy) can fit in his mouth, followed by a second layer of mayo and another slice of toasted bread.  I typically can't actually fit the whole sandwich in my mouth, so it's more of a "take one bite and all the tomatoes fall out" kind of sandwich, but still tasty.

2) Hamburgers: There is no possible way in the world that I could be a vegetarian, because hamburgers = life.  I have a running list of the best hamburgers I've ever tasted, with Sleder's buffalo burgers in Traverse City, MI as first, closely followed by Five Guys.  Every timeI go to a restaurant, I look at the menu, hoping to see something that will catch my eye, and something always does.  A hamburger.  I don't know why I look for anything else, because that's what it always is.

3) Green beans: I have to include this one because of my mom :) While she gags at the thought of green beans, I devour them.  In addition to my hamburger, I almost always get green beans as a side at restaurants.  I love them raw, canned, and cooked, but they are best when cooked with onions and bacon, like they do at Texas Roadhouse.

4) Chocolate chips: As anyone in my family can tell you, I am an avid chocolate chip eater.  Too often my mom has gone to the cupboard to make chocolate chip cookies, only to find there are no chocolate chips.  As I am typically the guilty party, I usually go out and buy another bag.  The best kind are the Wegman's brand, but Nestle dark chocolate will also do in a pinch :)

When it comes to food there are three things that I will continuously cycle through cravings for...

1) Pizza. Seriously though, I love pizza. The crust, the cheese, the endless array of toppings you can pick from, it's absolute perfection. One of my best friends introduced me to making my own pizzas which has wound up being one of my staples in making meals. If I can't make pizza I usually try to hit up my favorite fast pizza joint, Blaze Pizza. They can have any pizza ready in 2 minutes and it's amazing. My personal fav is the red vine with many additions (artichokes, ham, grilled zuccihini to name a few) so I suggest hitting it up if you see one.

2) Burgers. To me there are few things more delightful than biting into a delicious, juicy medium burger. For these I don't really have a go to,  I just add on whatever I'm feeling particularly motivated for that day and I'm good to go.

3) Dark Chocolate. There is something so magical about dark chocolate. The bitterness is just cancelled out by the semisweetness of it. Dark chocolate makes everything it's added to that much better.. pretzels, ice cream, strawberries, it's the perfect addition to any snack/dessert without being too overwhelming.

Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

I'm writing this, not as a complaint, but as a plea.  If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. My children are talented.  In fact, every child that I have ever met is talented in some way.  That's the fun thing about meeting kids--discovering those hidden talents. Some of the talents my children possess are very public--you guessed it...music.  Some aren't so public--kindness and generosity. My kids are frequently judged by other children because of their musical talents.  Other kids see them as "snobs" because they play their instruments well and because they are willing to share those talents whenever asked. My kids never play with arrogance.  They recognize that they are better at music than most kids their age, but they never, ever show it.  In fact, they are very generous with compliments towards other kids and their efforts with music.  I have raised them to appreciate anyone who tries to do anything with music--it's ...

Redefining Charity

I like attending church on Sunday for many different reasons, but I dislike the meetings for one very large reason:  discussions regarding charity. In case you don't remember your Sunday School lessons, charity is defined as the pure love of Christ.  If you were to actually look up the word in a dictionary, it would say, "See John Kennedy". That's right.  My wonderful husband is the perfect embodiment of charity. His life basically moves from one charitable act to another. Take any given Saturday.  He can found building some large structure on our property because I think we need it.  He can be found, rebuilding a pond for an old Indian woman who lives alone and needs some help.  On his way to a church picnic, he will stop to help an old woman reseal her driveway, missing one of his favorite meals in the world:  a POTLUCK! Other days?  He stops to help any person on the side of the road with car troubles. He'll drive 2.5 hours to a ...

The TOOTH that Broke the Camel's Back

1.  Take an already busy doctor and install an EMR (Electronic Medical Record) in his office.  Kiss him goodnight at midnight as he begins to "preload" charts for future visits. 2.  Host a general authority of the church for our stake conference this weekend.  Receive a long "to do" list of jobs just five days before the conference. 3.  Feel stress because John is stressed.  Try to do his jobs around the house so that he doesn't have to worry about them. 4.  Have 16 puppies. 5.  Decide to build outside area for puppies.  Borrow backhoe from neighbor.  Watch John work long past the setting sun, and wake up before anyone else to dig. 6.  Use our own tractor to move the dirt.  Watch bucket malfunction, cut the fuel line and destroy the fuel pump.  Try to catch the leaking diesel fuel in a bucket. 7.  Catch cold last weekend.  Dread colds like a hemophiliac dreads a small cut.  Nurse fever, congestio...
