A Night at the Ball Park!

I really love sports. Growing up, I wanted to play every sport I could. In our small town, there weren’t a ton of options, but I loved being involved nonetheless. My favorite sport in my childhood was softball. To this day, I am sure I could just go into the backyard and throw the softball back and forth for hours. Ethan and I definitely bond over our love of sports. So yesterday when Ethan asked me an hour before we would need to leave if I wanted to go to an Orioles game, I had to say yes. Never mind I was in the middle of a million things. Ethan has been dying to go to a game this season, and it looked like it would be a beautiful night. Let’s go!

Going to a 3 hour long sporting event with two young children isn’t exactly easy, and honestly not always fun. But I figure if we want our kids to eventually enjoy going to and behaving at baseball games, then we just have to take them. Eventually they’ll get used to it, and it will be awesome. It’s like these people who supposedly take their young children camping…and have fun??? Sure, yeah…

I am so glad we went! We waited to buy our tickets at the park to save on processing fees (Ethan is totally a Kennedy and I LOVE it), and we ended up with great seats. The Orioles have this deal where kids under 9 can get free tickets to the game. Not just any seats, the nosebleeds, but still we ended up behind home plate. Ethan is so great to try and keep Everett with him as much as possible so I can enjoy the game. Plus, it seems that whenever I get Everett, Annie gets super clingy as well. #mommymagnet #jealoussibling

Okay, so first of all, we had this great usher. He showed us to our seats, dried them off, and gave each of our kids their own baseball cards (from his personal collection as far as we could tell). He was seriously just so nice. Everytime we would go out to the bathroom, which was quite a bit because baseball can be a little boring lol, he would talk to us. He was great.

The kids loved the music and the cheering. Everett would clap anytime anyone started clapping, and Annie had fun cheering for individual players at bat with Ethan. Ethan made PB&J’s for the whole family and I don’t think any of us were disappointed with our dinner :)

It really was a beautiful night. The weather was a tad humid, but the temperature was perfect. And I just love sitting outside, looking at the city skyline while the sun goes down. It is just so beautiful to me. Comerica Park is my favorite, but Baltimore was pretty great too.

Another fun moment was when Annie and I got on the dance cam during one of the inning breaks. She’s so cute, I can’t say that I’m surprised.

Sometime during the 6th inning we started to feel little raindrops. Well it wasn’t too long until those little raindrops turned into big raindrops. This is where the nosebleed section, which is under cover, paid off. Everyone else had to run out of the rain and we were sitting dry in our seats. However, after about 15 minutes it was raining so hard everyone had to get out of their seats and head into more serious cover. When it started lightning and thundering we decided to cut our losses and head out. Thankfully we were parked pretty close to the stadium, but we all still got completely soaked. Regardless, we all had a great time, and we are so glad we went!

Stuck Between a Rock and a Hard Place

I'm writing this, not as a complaint, but as a plea.  If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. My children are talented.  In fact, every child that I have ever met is talented in some way.  That's the fun thing about meeting kids--discovering those hidden talents. Some of the talents my children possess are very public--you guessed it...music.  Some aren't so public--kindness and generosity. My kids are frequently judged by other children because of their musical talents.  Other kids see them as "snobs" because they play their instruments well and because they are willing to share those talents whenever asked. My kids never play with arrogance.  They recognize that they are better at music than most kids their age, but they never, ever show it.  In fact, they are very generous with compliments towards other kids and their efforts with music.  I have raised them to appreciate anyone who tries to do anything with music--it's ...

Redefining Charity

I like attending church on Sunday for many different reasons, but I dislike the meetings for one very large reason:  discussions regarding charity. In case you don't remember your Sunday School lessons, charity is defined as the pure love of Christ.  If you were to actually look up the word in a dictionary, it would say, "See John Kennedy". That's right.  My wonderful husband is the perfect embodiment of charity. His life basically moves from one charitable act to another. Take any given Saturday.  He can found building some large structure on our property because I think we need it.  He can be found, rebuilding a pond for an old Indian woman who lives alone and needs some help.  On his way to a church picnic, he will stop to help an old woman reseal her driveway, missing one of his favorite meals in the world:  a POTLUCK! Other days?  He stops to help any person on the side of the road with car troubles. He'll drive 2.5 hours to a ...

The TOOTH that Broke the Camel's Back

1.  Take an already busy doctor and install an EMR (Electronic Medical Record) in his office.  Kiss him goodnight at midnight as he begins to "preload" charts for future visits. 2.  Host a general authority of the church for our stake conference this weekend.  Receive a long "to do" list of jobs just five days before the conference. 3.  Feel stress because John is stressed.  Try to do his jobs around the house so that he doesn't have to worry about them. 4.  Have 16 puppies. 5.  Decide to build outside area for puppies.  Borrow backhoe from neighbor.  Watch John work long past the setting sun, and wake up before anyone else to dig. 6.  Use our own tractor to move the dirt.  Watch bucket malfunction, cut the fuel line and destroy the fuel pump.  Try to catch the leaking diesel fuel in a bucket. 7.  Catch cold last weekend.  Dread colds like a hemophiliac dreads a small cut.  Nurse fever, congestio...
