A Text to Mommy from Johannah

Johannah:   Okay, so do you remember how I told you that I gave Hobbito to Zach while he was sick since I couldn’t be there? And I hadn’t gotten him back, so last night, I told Zach that it was cute that he still had Hobbito. Well, he then did one of his Zach lies where he could be telling the truth, but where he could also be lying because he’s very convincing, and made it sound like Hobbito wasn’t at his apartment. Well, I sort of freaked out but in a “where is my tiger” sort of way. Not like an actual freak out. But he told me that Hobbito was in North Dakota and it took several minutes before he told me that Hobbito was safe at his apartment, but also kept saying that Hobbito left to see the world. Well, tonight, Zach was walking me outside to drive me home, and told me that I had to turn around for a second, so I did, then he said I could look and this is what was there:  It was SO cute. And this is what the card says: Meet Zuzu. Or Zelly. I’m trying to decide on a n...

Utah, 2020

That title  should  read "Cayman, 2020", but with COVID, we once again canceled our vacation plans (for an airline e-credit no less....I think we already have over $1,000 worth of those at this point) and decided to head out to Utah to see the girls.  We don't go out there very often except to drop off, or pick up, or catch a concert or a wedding, so this was a new idea. I made a reservation through Vrbo for a rental apartment for the week.  The girls wanted me to basically cook every home cooked meal over the week because they are so tired of dorm/cafeteria food, so I needed a fully stocked kitchen...and I knew I wouldn't find that in a hotel.  I found a beautiful place right across University Avenue from the Provo City Center Temple.  The pictures showed the apartment's kitchen, and it looked really good. I was very excited for this trip.  While John has stressful weekends pulling call in PA, I don't ever really leave the greater metro Detroit ...

Sisterhood

It's really difficult being alone. Don't get me wrong--as an introvert, I love being alone, but when it comes to family, there is little that is more difficult than having no family. I have never met another person like myself--an only child, of an only child mother who is the daughter of only child parents, and a father who gave me up for adoption before he tragically passed away without me knowing him, and who had two brothers who had no interest in me. My step-father was the only light in the family tunnel by bringing me into the fold of his parents who taught me everything I know and who shaped me into who I am today.  Looking back on my life, those two people were the only people who ever wanted me in their lives. I have such a strong desire to help those who are close to me. I want to form relationships, and I feel such a pull to make people my family. I give and give and give, hoping that they will see value in me, and before I hang up on any phone call or say go...

Glo's 21st Birthday!

 21.  I can't even believe Glo is 21.  I mean, when I think back on her life and all she's done, she should probably be 40 by most people's standards ;-). But everybody's little Glo?  21? Yeah, it's hard to believe. I had balloons delivered to her apartment the day before she flew home, because I knew she wouldn't tell anyone it was her birthday, but I knew her residents would want to celebrate with her.  Hannah told me that as Glo was walking across the quad back to her dorm room, people were yelling "happy birthday" to her. Sure enough, they did a great job celebrating the day.  They brought Martinelli's over at midnight (a very appropriate 21-year-old gift for an LDS girl),  but nobody had a bottle opener (also a good sign!).  Glo managed to get the top off with a knife.  And they gave her some cute little gifts.  I seriously love her residents, or as they correct her, "friends". I wanted to bring her home for her birthday.  She ...
