Oh my goodness, I just ordered Mark's textbooks for the Fall semester at the University of Michigan (begin choking sounds). I don't know what it is about music textbooks, but the prices are astronomical.
Anyway, for future reference (because I know most of you either have kids, or are a kid), check Barnes & Noble for used textbooks. I find they are, on average, cheaper than any other site (Amazon, TextbooksRUs, and in the case of Ann Arbor, Ulrich's Bookstore). Don't even get me started on how much local bookstores charge the unknowing (and perhaps lazy) parents and their kids for books! I'm all for supporting local economies, but when the bookstores are charging almost double for the same used books, B&N is looking all the better.
The final tab for Fall semester for Mark? Almost $500, and after I add in all of the actual music he was required to have, the total is upwards of $650. I remember when John and I had to take out school loans to pay for both of our textbooks for a semester for $376.00!

If Dave's son Richard had paid full price for his books, it would have been over $1200! It's all that math and science I guess. Fortunately, it was (only?) $800. We're still in sticker-shock.... YIKES!
